Time Require for Trekking Chimpanzee.

The Trekking can be done in the morning or afternoon, and each trek allows about 3 to 4 hours of observation time. Chimpanzee Trekking Cost

Permits are required for chimpanzee trekking in Gombe. They are available from 0800 hrs to 0600 hrs, with a maximum of five groups per day, each consisting of up to 5 people. The cost for adults is $118 and for children aged 5 to 15, it’s $23.61.

The best time for trekking is during the dry season, which is from late May to October and late December through February. This is when the park is less muddy and trekking is more manageable.

Day – by – Day Chimpanzee Trekking Experience

Day 1: Arrival and Primate Exploration

Pick up from the hotel in Kigoma and transfer to Kibirizi port where you will board a boat for a transfer across Lake Tanganyika to Gombe National Park.
Check-in at your accommodation and go for briefing which will be followed by a trek into the forest. Guided by knowledgeable and experienced guide you will search for the family of chimps and other primates.
In the mid-day return to to the lodge for a delicious meal. In the afternoon you can opt to go for the next chimpanzee trekking or relax in the lodge enjoy swimming in the clear water of Lake Tanganyika.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Optional Activities

The second day starts early, with trekkers heading out at dawn to maximize their chances of encountering chimpanzees. Morning is an active time for these primates, and you’re likely to find them foraging for food or playing in the trees. Observing their social interactions and behaviors up close is a profound experience, offering insights into their complex societies and emotional lives. Guides will ensure you maintain a respectful distance, preserving both your safety and the chimpanzees’ natural behaviors. Continue withe trek up to Kakombe waterfalls before heading back to the lodge for lunch.

After enjoying the lunch you will rest for a short time then catch a boat back to Kigoma.
